My story
I grew up in Miami, the daughter of a Cuban father and a Puerto Rican mother. I spent my childhood playing in sprinklers, catching lizards, and devouring mangoes — until I learned to read. Then I devoured books.
I became the first in my family to graduate with a university degree. Not bad for a girl whose first language was Spanish.
Over the years I've worked as a newspaper reporter, magazine editor, and book writer. Today, I focus on health content. Click on to see writing samples and on to read some nice things my editors have to say about me. (I did not pay them!)
But before you leave this page, I'd love to share a few more things about me:
-
I taught creative writing at a men's correctional facility for a year and a half.
-
I was awarded the 12 x 12 Picture Book Challenge Diversity Scholarship for 2024. (Yep, I dabble in children's lit.)
-
I love playing with words and telling stories.
And I still devour mangoes — and books. 🥭 🥭 🥭 📚
